Worship God– Seed Thoughts
Revelation 19:10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
On Wednesday as we were meditating and studying the scriptures Grace highlighted this portion of scripture and it has intrigued me since then.
The Word of God comes to us purposefully, we know from the scriptures that God has transmitted His very substance (Constitution of God, material that makes God which has been referred to as GRACE- an indescribable phenomenon, a wonderful phenomenon by which we have been saved/delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His Son! This is the substance that God has transmitted into every Scripture, it is God-breathed.
It empowers us with its instruction and correction, it gives us the strength to take the right direction and leads us deeper into the path of godliness. Then (Then implies that it is next in order- something happens first THEN )we will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfil any assignment God gives us (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
So, the Word came to us on Wednesday, July 12th 2023 – this word that came is living, it is active, it is sharper, it is piercing and able to judge.
This word came to unveil areas that need repentance, areas that need adjustment, it came to make us aware of areas that need change or upgrade! Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed and revealed to the eyes of Him with whom we have to give account.
Today we cry out to God to revive us according to His Word. Make us alive again LORD God We are willing to hear (in Hebrew to hear is to obey).
We are listening, we are taking heed by faith and are pledging to respond with action to What You are pointing to. Strengthen us according to Your Word, Saturate us with Your Presence and give us victory over every negative consequence coming from the emotional turmoil that has come from our experiences of pain, disappointment or any such thing so that we can worship You with hope, with purity and with eternal strength and unfailing love! Worship should be Word and Spirit centred!
John 4:24 God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. Truth is a Person John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 1:14-The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Worship is a family affair -James 1:18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of first fruits of His creation. We have been born again, we are members of His family in Christ Jesus, and this is the platform of our worship. He is ours and we are His! John McArthur has said that Worship is our innermost being responding with praise for all that God is, through our attitudes, actions, thoughts, and words, based on the truth of God as He has revealed Himself”.
Music is one way of doing so. Worship is a life directed towards pleasing God and enjoying Him!
Let us not be worshippers that draw near to God with our mouths and religious rituals, yet our hearts are far from God. Isaiah 29 verse 14 13 This is what the Lord says about these people: “They come near to me with hollow words and honor me superficially with their lips; all the while their hearts run far away from me! Their worship is nothing more than man-made rules.
Worship has a standard – Worship in Spirit and in Truth.
What is a Standard? A standard is that which is established by authority as a rule for the measure of quantity, extent, value, or quality; esp., the original specimen weight or measure sanctioned by government, as the standard pound, gallon, or yard. (Bible Hub).
There is the right action and right attitude for worship. The Word of God is the standard for worship. A faithful worshipper is one whose heart attitude and actions are in accordance with the Word of God. Acceptable worship is God ordained not human initiative. Why because when we were born again, we were not born again of human or flesh but by the incorruptible Word of God. Many assume God stopped killing when He executed Nadab and Abihu when they brought strange fire before the LORD. In the new testament Church Ananias and Saphira are executed in the church as they brought proceeds of land.
That was an act of worship wrong attitude right action and they died! Acts 5:3-4 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
Is it not interesting that the father of music Jubal is not identified with worship, in fact, he was a descendant of Cain! Genesis 4:21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes.
Father, we recognize the gift of song and its role in enabling us to express our love for You. May Your fear of the LORD seize each of us! Forgive us LORD God for taking You for granted. We confess our known and unknown sins of abusing Grace and Mercy. Deliver us from emotional worship driven by how we feel when we are singing! We embrace the lifestyle that pleases You. We offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to You God—this is our true and proper worship. We refuse to conform to the pattern of this world but embrace the transformation that comes with the renewing of our minds so that we can be able to test and approve what Your will is—Your good, pleasing, and perfect will. Amen.
