In Martin Luther’s reformation the phrase “Sola Scriptura” emerged as a core pillar of the reformation. The reformation happened in the 16th century , it led to the recovery of biblical truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ such as “ justification by faith”.
Romans 1:17 This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness—a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith. This is what the Scripture means when it says: “We are right with God through life-giving faith!”
Sola scriptura means scripture alone. Others have explained it this way – Solar scriptura affirms the Authenticity, Accuracy and Authority of the Bible as the Standard for Truth.
2 Timoth 3 :14-17 excerpt There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
Psalm 119:160 The sum total of all Your words adds up to absolute truth, and every one of your righteous decrees is everlasting.
1 Timothy 3:15 in case I am delayed, so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. (it is because the Word of God is the standard for truth that the church then becomes known as the pillar and foundation of the truth). If we can for a minute, go back to John 1 where we camped for weeks. As we gazed at Grace, we learned that the Word became a human being and full of Grace and Truth lived among us !!!) Full of Grace and Truth! This is what the Word contained and how He conducted Himself as a human being.
Just like in the 16th century corruption in how the Bible is interpreted has become evident in our day if your dress is torn and you wear it , it leaves you exposed and vulnerable , in the same manner misinterpretation of the Bible leaves exposed to threats and can lead us to live ungodly lives yet thinking we are on the right path.
I believe that the first place to begin in exploring the Bible/Word is by fortifying the foundation of LOVE that has brought us back to the Father as His children. James 1:18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created.
We are the product of LOVE – Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Let us be approaching our Word study moments with love as our primary heart position.
