Few weeks ago we explored the beauty and wonder of Grace as the foundation of our Sonship. Solomon has taught us that Sons build their father’s vision.1 Kings 8:19 However you will not be the one to build this place; but your son who is yet to be born will build your vision, this temple for My Name.
Our inquiry into the scriptures reveals our identity, purpose, and function here on earth as we await His return and the end of time. Understanding the depth of being a son will change our lives and we will endeavor to please Him. The written Word of God shows us the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of scripture is God-breathed and useful it shows us truth, exposes our rebellion, corrects our mistakes, and trains us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
The Word is The Son. Hebrews 1:1-3 Throughout our history God has spoken to our ancestors by His prophets in many different ways. The revelation He gave them was only a fragment at a time, building one truth upon another. 2 But to us living in these last days, God now speaks to us openly in the language of a Son, the appointed Heir of everything, for through Him God created the panorama of all things and all time. 3The Son is the dazzling radiance of God’s splendor, the exact expression of God’s true nature—His mirror image! He holds the universe together and expands it by the mighty power of His spoken word.
Jesus is God’s language- In Him the glorious intent of the invisible God becomes visible, The son is an exhibit/display of God’s character and attributes. In court an exhibit is a document, record, or a tangible object that is formally introduced as evidence in court. An exhibit in trade shows or at Walmart is something being shown like a TV, an exhibit in a museum is an arrangement of things put in a particular place so people can see. In Christ we the sons of God are produced as evidence of His character and His attributes wherever we are.
Romans 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification. (Justification is our Divine Acquittal, God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift. It is not based on anything you have done. No one can brag about earning it. We thank God for sonship that is our inheritance and reality by Grace! ABBA FATHER is our cry! Just like the roots of a tree we should draw our strength and sustenance from God. You received Christ Jesus as Lord. So, keep on living your lives in Him. Have your roots in Him. Build yourselves up in Him. Grow strong in what you believe, just as you were taught. Be more thankful than ever before.
The body of Jesus nailed to the cross hung as the document of our guilt, He died our death, He cancelled the detailed handwritten record which testified against us, every stain on our conscience reminding us of the sense of failure and guilt was blotted out. We find this assurance in Colossians 2 and Apostle Paul could be certain of this because he had a past and he had experienced transformation that His new identity in Christ was real, the old gone and the new has come . So, we embrace this truth , I am a son of God a new creation , He is my life Hallelujah! Here is our new identity in our Father’s Kingdom 1 Peter 2:9 AMPC But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God's] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. [Exod. 19:5, 6.] The one who was full of grace & truth is the son of God the first born among many sons. Hebrews 2:10-11 NASB For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, We are cut from the same cloth full of grace and truth in Christ walking the earth as His sons Hallelujah! The Holy Spirit today is calling each and every one of us to return to the original design ,to live a life that is divinely arranged, to live within the boundaries of our Sonship as clearly instructed by the Word of God. 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 NASB But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, [31] so that, just as it is written, "Let HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD." Our wisdom is in Him, our righteousness is in Him, our sanctification and redemption is in Him and our boast is in Him Hallelujah! My desire today is that each of us will know with certainty that God does everything through His son (Hebrews 1:3) , He has brought us to Himself and declared us as His sons. As we read at the beginning of this reflection, we have received the spirit of adoption to cry out “Abba Father”. By faith you are a son if you believe in His name, You have been born again of the will of God. God created man to be His image and likeness, an exact representation of the Father. Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
Conform is to become like – requires a change of nature working into the outward of life that is why Romans 12 says we should not be conformed to this world, let’s read it in the Message translation as we close. Romans 12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Let us confidently rest in the promise that we were not left as orphans. He has come to us. We have a Father! Couple of more things: 1)It is God’s nature to do everything through His son. Romans 8:14-16 The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit. 15And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as He rises up within us, our spirits join Him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” 16For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”
2)Interestingly though God is our Father 1 Cor. 4:14-15 I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel . We see Paul a man-human boldly declaring his fathering of the church at Corinth. I am reminded of Jesus a son of God yet being raised by Joseph. A father gives life, in our context through the WORD of God. That does not mean we do not have direct access to God our Father- we do but God has shown us these relationships like Paul and Timothy , Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha. May we recognize who God has given us in each season to produce the life of Christ in us through their faithful ministry of the Word and Spirit. May God give us these relationships that cause growth in Christ.
3)Sons obey as the Father instructs clearly seen in Solomon building the temple , Jesus living exactly as Father God commanded , Paul and Timothy – Randolph Barnwell says Humility is evidenced by obedience to the Word. It demands a death to one’s own opinions that contradict God’s Word and the obedience thereof.” 1 Peter 5:5-6 5 In the same way, the younger ones should willingly support the leadership of the elders. In every relationship, each of you must wrap around yourself the apron of a humble servant. Because: God resists you when you are proud but multiplies grace and favor when you are humble.
Father, here we are by faith downloading and installing Your Word into our hearts so that You can be our operating, thinking and value system. We take authority over the distortion of the enemy that takes place when we do not renew our minds in Christ Jesus. We yield to the process that will produce us as mature sons walking with You on the earth in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ our LORD, Brother, Savior and King. AMEN.
