Today, we will answer the question Who are you by focusing on the “who,” as answered in 1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.10 “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do His work and speak out for Him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. Gold is in the earth waiting to be discovered, and our identity in Christ is waiting for us to find this great treasure: CHRIST IN US, THE HOPE OF GLORY!
Royal here affirms our identity as belonging to a king and kingdom and having kingly power, dignity, and authority. 1 Colossians 1:13-14 For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. We discussed this verse last year when we studied about being saved by Grace. It’s comforting to know with certainty that once we accept Jesus as our Lord and receive His mercy, our identity is no longer associated with the world but with our Father and His heavenly kingdom. No wonder our focus is no longer on seeking anything else, but on seeking His kingdom first, where we truly belong.”.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. This connects us directly to the authority of God’s throne. His rule. His preference. His will. GOD OUR FATHER IS FIRST. We are on a journey to discover our identity based on the teachings of the Living Word of God, which has the power to shape us in His image and likeness. The concept of a Kingdom is related to governance, influence, and being subject to authority. In this case, the authority is God, our Father and Eternal King. In Isaiah, we see Jesus; this is who He is and was called. Isaiah 9: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
“This Jesus, the Son of God, dwells within me by my belief(belief shapes behavior). The names of God are attributes that we are called to embody, such as being a wonderful Counselor. It is beautiful that 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 reminds us of this truth.”It is because of Him that we are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
We are discussing identity and observe that, in our faith, the status of being a Son is first. I was brought into the Kingdom of His Son! It is a source of great joy to know that I am a Son of God, and this is the foundation of my priesthood.
Let us check out Hebrews 3:1-6 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
Our High Priest possesses a unique character attribute. He refers to us as his brothers and sisters, and He has made us holy. Faithfulness is our nature in Christ, and so we embrace working out our salvation with fear and trembling and embrace choices that faithful men like Abraham made that have made us partakers of this great salvation. Jesus’ priestly function is driven by love and commitment to God His Father. He is referred to as the Lamb of God. In the Old Testament, we learn about the role and function of priests as mediators, intercessors, and handlers of sacrifice.
Deut. 10:8, NIV At that time, the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister, and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.
Priests are intercessors, reconcilers, mediators, and bridge builders.” – Jesus has reconciled us to God through His perfect sacrifice at the Cross. Next week, we will focus on the garments of the priests from the Old Testament. These garments are deeply connected to one’s identity. They were designed by God Himself, just as a man who lives in Christ is also designed by God. Just like the ark and the tabernacle, these garments also have specific dimensions and designs that come from God. God has not left anything to chance, and He has a divine plan for your life here on earth so that your journey can be glorious and pleasing to Him.
Isaiah 58:12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
